Excited!
I have been playing with the manual settings, yes at first it does suck...but I wanted to challenge myself a little bit. I will post some of the shots I took manipulating the lens and settings, they of course aren't very good right now. I did get a few helpful hints from Kelley and when I got home started to mess with the lens...

Moving fast :) This is good. I love that you're taking initiative with it and diving in. You'll not regret it, trust me. The skills you'll acquire shooting this way will serve you with almost any camera you touch from here on out.
